Employment:

Groundskeeper: Athletic Fields
Hourly/Seasonal
(with potential to go to full-time)

Job Description

Performs manual labor and semi-skilled work in the Buildings and Grounds Department.  Maintains athletic fields by cutting grass, aerating fields, and lining fields.  Operates light machinery and uses hand tools to prune trees, mow fields, weed whack, remove snow, etc.  Must be willing to train on available heavy mowing equipment and have some experience as a truck driver, and in small mid-size mower and farm tractor type mowing operations. Work is performed outdoors under all types of weather conditions with exposure to the usual hazards associated with outside maintenance and construction work.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent and 1-2 years experience in athletic field maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with good driving record mandatory.
  • Certification as a State Category 60 Registered Technician for pesticide application is preferred.
  • Safety shoes required.
  • Requires an acceptable criminal background check.
  • This position is considered an Essential Position which requires the employee to report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions, often outside normally scheduled work hours, or as notified by a supervisor.
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including lawn mowers, aerators, weed eaters, chippers, edgers, chainsaws, hand tools, shovels, hoes, rakes, pruning equipment, field liners, etc. 
  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. 
  • Much of the work involves heavy lifting and carrying of materials, bending, stooping, standing, and walking while doing the groundskeeping activities.

Public Programming Internship
Summer 2013

Description
Internships in the Public Programming Department at Morven Park expose students to a wide range of aspects in museum education and program development.  Through hands-on experiences with summer camp programs, interns learn valuable leadership and programming skills.  Interns work closely with education and public programming staff, gaining increased awareness of the operations of a historic site and experience working at a non-profit recreational facility.

Responsibilities
Interns are responsible for the following objectives:

  • Serve as a summer KaMP (Kids at Morven Park) counselor for Morven Park’s four summer KaMPs.
  • During the off weeks in between KaMPs, assist with program planning, preparation and implementation.
  • Shadow other Morven Park departments to see how an historic site is managed.
  • Evaluate the first week of Summer Fun KaMP (from June 24-28), providing suggestions for improvements.
  • Utilize research and gained knowledge to develop one full day of the last session of Summer Fun KaMP (from August 12-16) and facilitate the day as lead instructor.

 
Qualifications
Interns must be 18 years or older and should be interested in one of the following fields: History, American Studies, Education, Agriculture, Biology, Wildlife Management, Sports Management, Museum Studies or Public History.  The successful candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • Self-motivated with outstanding work ethic
  • Comfortable working with kids
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment
  • Enthusiastic and willing to learn

Time Commitment
Internships are full-time positions that begin on June 19, 2013 through August 16, 2013. 

Compensation
Each intern will be paid a stipend of $1,000.  Interns are expected to provide their own transportation and housing during the internship, but will be reimbursed for pre-approved project related travel expenses.

Summer KaMP Counselor
Summer 2013

Description

  • Guide campers, facilitating activities and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all.

Counselors must be a 18 years or older, a high school graduate and should be interested in one of the following fields: History, American Studies, Education, Agriculture, Biology, Wildlife Management, Sports Management, Museum Studies or Public History.  The successful candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • Self-motivated with outstanding work ethic

  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment

Time Commitment
The counselor position lasts for the four weeks of Summer KaMP plus two days of additional training prior to the first week:
June 24-28- Summer Fun KaMP
July 8-12- History Detectives KaMP
July 29-August 2- Outdoor Adventures KaMP
August 12-16- Summer Fun KaMP

Compensation
Each counselor will be paid an hourly rate of $11.50 / hour.  Each work day is from 8:30-4:30pm, Monday – Friday.  Counselors are expected to provide their own transportation and housing.
